2
Independent Contractor Status (1099)
Your legal classification and what it means
You Are an Independent Contractor — Not an Employee CRITICAL
All GSC crew work exclusively as independent contractors (1099). There are no W-2 employees in field operations. This means:
  • You control your own schedule — you accept or decline any gig at your discretion
  • You may work for other companies and clients simultaneously
  • GSC does not withhold income taxes, Social Security, or Medicare on your behalf
  • You are responsible for paying self-employment taxes quarterly (estimated)
  • You are responsible for your own health insurance, retirement savings, and personal liability
  • You receive a 1099-NEC at year end for all payments totaling $600 or more
W-9 Form — Required Before First Payment REQUIRED
Every contractor must complete and submit a valid IRS Form W-9 before receiving any payment from GSC. The W-9 collects your legal name, address, and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN/SSN). No W-9 on file = no payment issued.
  • W-9 is submitted during the onboarding process online
  • You must notify GSC of any changes to your name or TIN within 30 days
  • If your TIN is incorrect, payments may be subject to backup withholding (24%)
Your Rights as a 1099 Contractor
  • You set your own availability — GSC dispatches based on what you've made available
  • You may decline any gig without penalty (up to 3 declines in 30 days without flag)
  • You own the right to work for competitors — GSC has no non-compete clauses
  • You are entitled to receive your 1099-NEC by January 31st each year
  • Disputes regarding payment may be submitted to gratefulsetcrew@gmail.com

Code of Conduct & Professionalism
Behavioral standards expected of all GSC crew
Zero Tolerance PoliciesTERMINATION
The following result in immediate removal from the GSC network with no opportunity to appeal:
  • Appearing on a job site under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances
  • Theft of any kind — from clients, venues, or fellow crew
  • Physical altercation with a client, venue staff, or fellow crew member
  • Harassment (sexual, racial, or otherwise) of any person on or off site
  • Deliberate sabotage of equipment or client property
  • Sharing confidential client information on social media or with third parties
Punctuality — The Golden RuleCRITICAL
You must be on-site and ready to work at least 15 minutes before your scheduled call time. Late arrival (more than 10 minutes after call time) without prior notice is treated as a no-show. Three no-shows in 90 days = automatic suspension from the network.
Phone Policy On-SitePOLICY
Personal phones are for work use only while on the clock — checking the GSC app, clocking in/out, communicating with dispatch. Scrolling social media, taking personal calls, or filming job site content without permission is prohibited and subject to disciplinary action.
Client Communication ProtocolPOLICY
You do not discuss pricing, contracts, or future bookings with clients. If a client asks for your personal number or attempts to hire you directly — you must report it to GSC dispatch immediately. All business goes through GSC. Circumventing the system (taking side work from GSC clients) is grounds for immediate termination.
Professional Behavior StandardsEXPECTED
  • Address clients and supervisors as "Sir," "Ma'am," or by name
  • Never complain about work conditions in front of clients or venue staff
  • Take initiative — if you see something that needs doing, do it
  • Help fellow crew without being asked
  • Leave every job site cleaner than you found it
  • Represent GSC with pride — you are a professional
6
Safety Protocols & OSHA Compliance
Your safety is the top priority — no exceptions
OSHA Certification — Optional but Rewarded BONUS
OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification is not required to work at GSC. If you already hold an OSHA card, upload it to your profile to unlock higher-paying roles and supervisor positions. GSC provides safety orientation training through the crew portal for all members.
Stop Work Authority
If you observe an unsafe condition — unstable rigging, electrical hazard, crowd crush risk, or any other danger — you have the authority and obligation to stop work and report it immediately. You will not be penalized for stopping work for legitimate safety reasons.
Injury Reporting
Any on-site injury — no matter how minor — must be reported to GSC dispatch and documented via the app within 2 hours of the incident. Failure to report may affect your coverage. GSC carries $2M General Liability — document everything.
Driving and Vehicle Safety
If assigned to drive a GSC vehicle, your driving record must be clean (no major violations in 3 years). You must complete a vehicle safety briefing. All GSC vans have GPS tracking. No passengers outside the assigned crew.
Rigging & Overhead Work
Only Level 3+ crew with valid rigging certification may work overhead loads. All ground crew must wear hard hats during any overhead work. Never stand directly under suspended loads. Signal person must maintain eye contact with riggers at all times.
7
AI Dispatch System — How Gigs Work
How the GSC AI assigns and manages your gigs
How the AI Dispatch Works
When a client books crew, the GSC AI dispatch engine runs an instant matching algorithm:
  • Step 1: Client submits booking → AI analyzes: location, event type, crew roles needed, date/time
  • Step 2: AI scans available crew by skill level, location (GPS), rating, and past performance
  • Step 3: Push notification + SMS + email sent to top-matched crew simultaneously
  • Step 4: First qualified crew member to accept wins the gig
  • Step 5: AI confirms all parties, sends event briefing and client contact details
  • Step 6: Day-of: GPS check-in required · AI monitors attendance and alerts dispatch to issues
Emergency Dispatch — "911 Protocol" SURGE PAY
When a gig posts with under 4 hours notice, it is classified as an Emergency Dispatch. The AI pushes an urgent alert to all available qualified crew within 25 miles. The first crew member to accept receives the gig at 1.5× their standard rate. Emergency gigs are time-sensitive — you have 3 minutes to accept before the offer moves to the next available crew member.
Availability Management
Keep your availability calendar updated in the GSC app. If you are marked available but don't respond to 3 consecutive gig offers, you will be automatically marked unavailable and removed from dispatch queue for 24 hours. Chronic non-responses may affect your dispatch priority score.
Gig Cancellation Policy
Canceling a gig after accepting is a serious offense. Less than 24 hours notice: 1 strike. Less than 4 hours notice: 2 strikes. No-show (no notice): 3 strikes = immediate suspension. Three strikes within 90 days results in permanent removal from the network.
Rating System
After every gig, clients rate crew on a 5-star scale across: Professionalism, Skill, Punctuality, Uniform, and Communication. Your overall rating average determines your dispatch priority — higher-rated crew get first access to premium gigs and emergency alerts. Ratings below 4.0 for 3 consecutive gigs trigger a performance review.

9
Tax Obligations & W-9 Requirements
Your financial responsibilities as a 1099 contractor
You Are Responsible for Your Own Taxes IMPORTANT
As a 1099 independent contractor, you are considered self-employed by the IRS. GSC does not withhold federal income tax, state income tax, Social Security, or Medicare from your payments. You are responsible for:
  • Quarterly estimated tax payments (due April 15, June 15, Sept 15, Jan 15)
  • Self-employment tax (currently 15.3% on net earnings)
  • Federal & state income tax on all 1099 income
  • Keeping records of all GSC income payments for annual filing
GSC strongly recommends consulting a tax professional if you are new to 1099 work.
1099-NEC Issuance
GSC will issue a 1099-NEC (Non-Employee Compensation) form for every contractor who earns $600 or more in a calendar year. Forms are delivered electronically via the GSC app and by mail to your address on file by January 31st each year. Ensure your mailing address and SSN/TIN are correct in your profile at all times.
Tax Deductions Available to You
As a 1099 contractor, you may be able to deduct business-related expenses. Common deductions for GSC crew include:
  • Work boots and black work pants (portion of cost)
  • Tools purchased for work use
  • Mileage driven to job sites (IRS standard rate)
  • Phone plan (portion used for business)
  • Health insurance premiums (if self-employed)
Consult a CPA or use tax software (TurboTax, FreeTaxUSA) designed for freelancers.
